Who are “Nick’s Avengers”?
From Guy Cecchi:

In April 2011, my son Nick, was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic Aveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. Three weeks before his diagnosis his cousin passed away from another rare form of Sarcoma. Three of Nick’s grandparents were also victims of Cancer.

Our lives, especially Nick’s, was to change dramatically that 4th day of April 2011. The treatment protocol was 54 weeks of Chemotherapy with 6 weeks of radiation thrown in. In reality the treatment lasted approximately 67 weeks due to the delays and hospital stays as a result of the severe side effects  of the treatment. On average he was in the hospital at least one week out of every month for 16 months. On Thanksgiving Day 2012 he ate his first meal since June 2011 and he began to put on the over 50 pounds he had lost. Shortly his hair returned as well as his energy for school and work.

Every 3 months there would be an MRI and CT scan to keep an eye on the tumor site as well as a spot on his lung. On January 2 of this year we got the news that his tumor had returned – meaning 12 more months of chemotherapy – so the battle continues.

One of the bright spots in the midst of this battle are the doctors, nurses, and support staff at the Jimmy Fund Clinic. So we, Nick’s Avengers, walk so that fewer children and ultimately no more children will have to suffer and/or lose their battle to this terrible disease.
