September – Katz Roadshow Comes to Shepley

By Tony Shepley,

On Friday, September 9th, Shepley is bringing the Katz Roadshow to Cape Cod. Gary Katz has been a builder and author about various topics in our industry for the past 25 years. You may have seen him and his Katz Roadshow at the Journal of Light Construction (JLC) Show in Providence or you may have read one of his many articles in Fine Home Building, Fine Wood Working, or the Journal of Light Construction, or read one or more of his books or even seen his DVD series, Mastering Finish Carpentry.

Gary is not only a prolific author of many books like The Door Hanger’s Handbook, and Finish Carpentry: Efficient techniques for Custom Interiors and Trim Made Simple, but he is also a passionate building professional who really thinks through the science of building as well as the do’s and don’ts of successful construction. He is highly knowledgeable but also very engaging and entertaining. Gary is a true believer in the importance of training for people in the field and with the pace of innovation and change in the industry, we completely agree that every bit of training we bring to your crew will pay dividends.

Working with Gary, we have come up with a value-packed day’s program that starts with a breakfast at 7:30 AM, includes lunch, and wraps up at 2:30 PM. He purposely limits these Road Shows to only 18 per year nationwide, so this is an exclusive date for this area. Gary is a quality over quantity guy and you will be impressed by what he puts into the program. Make no mistake, this is not just about interior trim, but covers some really important and relevant topics such as managing moisture, proper installation techniques for windows and doors, proper installation techniques for pre-hung doors and trim installation tips and techniques. This is a great program not only for carpenters, but also for supervisors and even design professionals. Gary keeps things moving at a fast pace but is well known for the quality of the information he imparts and that you and your staff will leave with.

But wait … there’s more! Throughout the day, we will have give-a-ways, courtesy of the vendors who support the Katz Road Show. Want to win a generator for your jobsite? The Katz Road Show could be sending you home with one. Another great benefit is the 4 CSL continuing education credits you will receive towards your CSL renewal requirement. Certificates will be provided for all attendees.

Training is part of the commitment towards excellence. Too many times carpenters on the job are left to figure things out for themselves. Training is the very least we can do to bring people along in their skill sets and advance them in their careers. There is an old adage that goes, “What if I train my people and they leave to work elsewhere?” The answer is “What if I don’t train them, and they stay?”

To register for the Katz Road Show, please call Deb MacPhee at 508-862-6200, e-mail her at or register online: . We look forward to seeing you on Friday September 9th from 7:30—2:30. Make sure to pre-register to reserve your place, this show will sell out.
