VELUX® Solar Tax Credits Extended!

By Gordon Correia,

One day I got a call from a customer who has his winter home in sunny California and his summer home nestled in the dunes of Cape Cod. This gentleman is an architect and a structural engineer who doesn’t like to turn on his heat in the winter or his air conditioner in the summer so designed both of his homes to take advantage of cross ventilation. I told him if he installed solar powered skylights, instead of electric units, he would not only save money on the cost of hiring an electrician and running wires, he would also get a substantial amount of money taken off his taxes that would help pay for the cost of the job.

In May I hosted two breakfast seminars along with Velux representative Dave Poikonen. We talked about the benefits of Velux Solar Powered Skylights and Solar Powered Double Pleated Blinds. We were also happy to spread the news that the 30% Federal Solar Tax Credit has been extended until 2021. Who doesn’t want to take advantage of money the government is giving away? Once you do the math, it’s a no brainer to choose solar!

After the solar skylights were installed at my architect/engineers home I did a follow up call to ask him how he liked them. He was very happy with the skylights, but wanted me to come over and help program the skylights and blinds on his new Velux Integra Remote and copy to another remote so he has a spare incase his grandkids lose one. When I arrived, the temperature was about 85 degrees inside the home.  He had the slider open, and as soon as I opened all the skylights there was a rush of hot air exiting from the house reducing the temperature to 68 degrees. The customer looked at me with a smile on his face and said, “That’s amazing isn’t it?” Of course I agreed!
