March is National Eye Safety Month

According to the CDC, approximately 2,000 U.S. workers sustain job-related eye injuries daily, requiring medical treatment.
Welding equipment and power tools contribute to over 25,000 eye injuries annually, with nearly one million Americans experiencing some degree of vision loss due to eye injuries.

Common causes of workplace eye injuries include flying debris, tools, chemicals, harmful radiation, and digital eye strain, highlighting the importance of implementing proper eye protection measures. This includes non-prescription or prescription safety glasses, goggles, face shields, welding helmets, or full-face respirators.

Excessive use of digital devices in office settings can lead to digital eye strain, resulting in blurred vision, dry eyes, and headaches.

To alleviate digital eye strain, Prevent Blindness recommends following the "20-20-20" rule: Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break to look at an object at least 20 feet away, allowing for eye relaxation and rejuvenation.

By raising awareness and implementing proactive measures, we can work together to prioritize workplace eye wellness and protect our vision. Join us in observing Workplace Eye Wellness Month and proactively safeguarding our eyesight for a safer and healthier work environment.
