Recommended applications from exterior wood doors manufacturers have changed over the years -most now require an over hang to cover the warranty. The Simpson Door Company, manufactures the Nantucket Series, which is one of the few exterior doors that does not require an overhang. Nantucket is known for its historical beauty and rugged New England weather conditions, which is why Simpson choose this island as the namesake for this collection of unique craftsman style doors, built to withstand the toughest weather conditions.
Nantucket doors are available in four wood species: Douglas Fir, which carries a 5-year warranty; Sapele Mahogany, Nootka Cypress and Black Locust, which carry10-year warranties.
Simpson’s Nantucket Series has unbeatable construction. Each door is crafted with mortise-and-tenon joinery with face driven pins, two-piece laminated stile and rail construction, and the tenon and face pins are always made of Black Locust. The divided lite doors are made with SDL construction. The Nantucket Series doors achieve design pressure ratings of DP50 (additional hardware may be required in some applications).
Nantucket doors come in 1-3/4 and 2-3/4 thickness. There are various sticking and panel options. There are also many hardware and sill options to compliment the Nantucket Series.
It is critically important that all wood doors are finished properly, prior to installation, to ensure optimum performance.
