In 1987 Maibec began kiln-drying white cedar shingles, which made staining the shingles possible. What started as a specialty product with little demand, has blossomed into a major part of the shingle industry. Naturally rot resistant, white cedar is legendary in its ability to withstand the elements. Nailed side by side and one over the other, shingles and shakes create a very weather-tight barrier that can withstand the elements for many decades. White cedar shingles are easy to maintain. Over time, they age to a silvery gray hue - a classic Cape Cod style!
